MAINTENANCE / MODS
Knock Sensors:
I had a passenger side knock sensor that was leaking
some coolant, so I decided to just replace both of them.

Spark Plug Wire Boot Shields:
From the factory the two most rear
spark plug wire boots on both sides
(Cylinder #5,7,6,8) have some metal
shields that protect the boots from
the exhaust manifold heat. I decided
to buy four more and put them on all
eight plug wire boots. I purchased
them from the Impala SS Super
Store:

PPG SunGate Solar Reflective Windshield:
My Caprice was ordered with the SunGate Winshield option. It
still had the original windshield, but was very pitted. I had Novus
Auto Glass replace it with a new PPG SunGate Windshield. The
SunGate technology has metal particles embedded in the glass to
give it a solar reflective property.
From PPG:
The Sungate windshield is a laminated, high-performance solar
control product designed to reflect infrared rays while meeting all
federal requirements for light transmittance. With the ability to
reflect over 50 percent of the sun’s total energy, the Sungate
windshield will never be mistaken for a conventional tinted
windshield. In fact, it outperforms such products by 400 percent.
You can tell if you have the original GM factory SunGate
windshield because the PPG/SunGate logo will be on the lower
passenger side corner. The replacement glass has it on the lower
drivers side corner.

Delco Monsoon CD Radio:
I upgraded the stock radio to a Delco Monsoon version. These
radios are the upgraded sound system that was available in the later
model Chevy Camaro. The Monsoon version has a higher output
than the stock Caprice/Impala SS radio. My stock Caprice radio had
a very ratchety feeling volume control and didn't have the auto-amp
preset for Country Music (C/W). The newer Delco models have a
much smoother volume control and have the auto-amp preset for
(C/W). I purchased a used radio from a factory authorized service
center.
